About

Stargazer Kennels is located in the beautiful Bitterroot Valley of Montana. We are a small kennel that prides ourselves in producing the  highest quality Cocker Spaniels as possible. We pride ourselves in the fact that we test every breeding pair for every inheritable disease that there is a test for. We want to be sure that we never produce a heartache for our puppy buyers, nor a miserable existence for the pup. Our dogs are our family first.

All puppies are born in our house and kept there until they go to their new homes. This allows each puppy to have individual attention, as well as get used to all sights and sounds that are involved in the house. We have a large yard that, when weather permits, they go out and enjoy the sunshine and companionship of older dogs. We also give them plenty of toys as this encourages them to use their natural instincts for retrieval. Grooming is started at three weeks of age tp get the puppies used to the sound and feel of the clippers.

We have been breeding Cocker Spaniels for 36 years now, and have a very distinctive line that we are very proud to call our own. Producing many Champions has earned us the esteemed title of being a breeder of Merit for the AKC,  breeder of the year with our local Kennel Club, and being in the top 10 breeders with the American Spaniel Club.

We realize that most people are not in the business of showing dogs, but it is our firm belief that every dog should be a prime example of the Standard that the Spaniel club has set forth. So even if you buy a puppy from us to be your best bed buddy, it will be a superior example of the Standard that is set forth by the Breed Club. It is our express wishes that you do thorough researching of the Breed  so you know all of the pros and cons associated with it. Get to know all health issues, and ask for documentation that the testing has been done.

Do not think that a cheaper dog is going to be the same, nor think that an AKC certificate makes it a quality dog. Think of it this way, every car has a title, it does not mean that it runs. The AKC is a registry for serious breeders to be able to track parentage so that we may be able to choose wisely the sires and dams of our litters. It is a pedigree database that anyone can have a dog listed in, nothing more. Please, research your breeder and make sure that they are doing the necessary testing to ensure that you have a healthy pup.

If we do not have puppies available when you are looking, please just tell me what you are looking for in a puppy. I keep a database of breeders of all varieties of Cockers to know who has puppies and when. I am more than happy to pass your name on to them, or give some names to you. These will only be reputable breeders that I know are doing health testing.

Have a great day,

Darlene and the Stargazer crew
